Cecil C. Turner

Funeral for Cecil C. Turner, 87, of Decatur, was Tuesday, September 8, at 11 a.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronald Manley, Cecil Berry and Tommy Smothers officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery.
Mr. Turner died Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born December 14, 1921, in Morgan County to John Andrew Turner and Mary Beasley Turner. He was retired from Wolverine Tube in Decatur. He was inducted into the Morgan County Sports Hall in 1999. He was an avid bowler and won the Southern Bowling Championship held in Memphis, Tenn. in 1957. He also coached several sports and was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. He was a great father, grandfather and husband. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Ella Turner and a stepson, Michael Champion.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Champion Turner; two sons, Cecil Howard Turner and wife JoAnn and Mike Turner and wife Jasmin, all of Decatur; three stepdaughters, Gayle Jacobs and husband Larry of Moulton, Connie Perry and husband Tommy and Lori Weeks and husband Roger, all of Decatur; three brothers, Hosie Turner of Oregon, Jim Turner of Decatur and Pierce Turner of Fultondale; three granddaughters, Robin Higdon, Gayla Bailey and Mollie Baldwin; seven great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers were Derrick Turner, Jimmy Sharp, Morris Carr, Chip Baldwin, Roger Weeks and Tommy Perry.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Sparkman, Allen Houser and Larry Jacobs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to New Friendship Baptist Cemetery Fund.
