Danville pummels Eagles in shortened spring game

By By Todd Thompson, Hartselle Enquirer
Danville concluded its spring football drills with a 28-6 victory over Cold Springs Friday in a game that was stopped at the half because of a lightning storm.
Danville opened up a 14-0 lead with touchdown runs from Tyler Beck and Levi George on the way to 300 yards of total offense.
Beck’s touchdown covered 18 yards, while George scored from 12 yards out.
Beck scored a second touchdown when he caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Hill.
David Cortez capped the Danville scoring with a 2-yard touchdown on a dive play.
Mario Cortez kicked all four extra points for the Hawks.
Danville completed 11 of 12 pass attempts in the win as the Hawks tried to use a 50-50 split between runs and passes.
The Hawks put in a new offense last spring and didn’t have to do as much work teaching as in the past.
Cold Springs scored its only touchdown late in the first half against Danville reserves before the game was ended.
Danville dominated the game defensively against the Eagles in two quarters of play.
Burch was pleased with the work the Hawks got in during spring drills even though the team never used up its allowed practice dates.
Danville will open its season in August with a jamboree against New Hope. The Hawks’ first game of the 2009 season will be at home against Hatton.
