Roy William ‘Alabama’ Vinzant

Funeral for Roy William “Alabama” Vinzant, 80, of Hartselle will be Thursday (today), April 23, at 3 p.m. at New Hope North Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Reeves officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Vinzant died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham. He was born January 1, 1929, in Morgan County to John W. Vinzant and Berttie Lee Johnson Vinzant. He was a member of the Teamsters union and was well known for his truck farming and selling at the Decatur and Hartselle Farmer’s Market. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Vinzant.
He is survived by a special friend, Jenny Lang of Michigan; a daughter, Sharon Vinzant Ashba and husband Steve of Hartselle; two brothers, Coy Vinzant and wife Hazel and Kenneth Vinzant and wife Sandra, both of Hartselle; three sisters, Geraldine Byrd and husband Ruel of Decatur, Laverne Byrd and husband Paul of Falkville and Essie Harris of Hartselle; three grandchildren, Jessica Cooley and husband Tim, Jason Meyer and wife Kristie and Jamey Meyer and wife Kristy; and eight great-grandchildren, Sarah Meyer, Bobby McDaniel, Derrick McDaniel, Emily Meyer, Bailey Deatrick, Ivan Meyer, Johnnie Sue Meyer and Emily Ashba.
Pallbearers will be Jamey Meyer, Jason Meyer, Tim Cooley, Zack Moses, Jody Vinzant, Matthew Vinzant and Harry Houston.
