Sept. 11, 1958-The Morgan County High Tigers beat the Falkville Blue Devils tonight by a score of 33-0. The first TD in the game came early in the first quarter for the Tigers when left half Buddy Roberts went 26 yards to score six points. Later, following a drive by quarterback Charles Howell to the Blue Devil 24, Bobby Harris took the ball around his own right end for a flashy score. Just before going on the field before the ballgame Coach Cain made this statement: “A man doesn’t have to put another person’s candle out to let his light shine.”
Sept. 11, 1958-Baker Manufacturing is building more storage space. Raymon Baker has bridged the part of Short’s Branch that runs through the property behind the old Stewart Bros. Motor Co. building.
Sept. 12, 1958-Hartselle is in the process of hiring a building and license inspector. Applications will be taken until Sept. 23 and the new employee will begin work on October 1.
Sept. 12, 1958-Robert Francis is serving as president of the Army Military Engineer for the ‘58-’59 school year at Auburn.
Sept. 13, 1958-Another Morgan County school has closed its doors. Collin school has registered only 28 students and thus it is no longer feasible to keep it in operation.
Sept. 13, 1958-Mrs. Y. A. McCall, Mary Frances McCall, and Sallie McCall left today for Macon, Ga., to visit Bill Briscoe and family for several days.
Sept. 14, 1958-A large crowd was in attendance at the annual Round Top all-day singing today. Arthur Lee was the chairman.
Sept. 14, 1958-A memorial plaque honoring the late Rev. Frank Aldridge was dedicated at this morning’s First Methodist worship service. It is mounted on the sanctuary wall and was given by members of the Boy Scouts.
Sept. 15, 1958-Robert Street, owner-operator of Nu-Way Cleaners, is the Hartselle chairman for this year’s Morgan County United Fund campaign.
Sept. 16, 1958-Mrs. P. W. Barclift left today for Atlanta where she will spend several days with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Freeman Jr., Mr. Freeman and sons.
Sept. 16, 1958-An Athens man, Paul H. Lee Jr., has bought Jitney Jungle.
Sept. 16, 1958-The city council is wrestling with what to do about the problem of taxi drivers being used to take whiskey from bootleggers to their local customers.
Being able to make these illegal profits gives some companies avenues that are unavailable to those who try to adhere to the letter and spirit of the prohibition law.
Sept. 16, 1958-Nine Morgan County men traveled to Montgomery today for induction into the U.S. Army. Nationally, there are 11,000 draftees with 685 of this number coming from Alabama. Hartselle area men are Floyd Junior Orr, Bobby Ray Jarrett and Oliver Earl Townson.
Sept. 17, 1958-The Book Lovers Club began its new year today, meeting in the home of Mrs. Cline Thompson for a luncheon.
