Mary Helen ‘Ma’ Akers

Funeral for Mary Helen ‘Ma’ Akers, 87, of Moulton was Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jack Bailey officiating.
Burial was in Russell Cemetery.
Mrs. Akers died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Cullman County to William Sysro Sewell and Nettie Vest Sewell. She was a member of Danville Baptist Church. She was the owner and operator of several country grocery stores, the first being in Rocky Ford, then relocating in Speake, and the most recent store being “Ma Aker’s” Grocery where she retired. The love of her life was to serve her customers and friends of Danville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Cole Gay and a brother, Hampton Vaughn.
She is survived by a son, John Clovis Roberts and wife Mary of Rogersville; a daughter, Linda Roberts Poole and husband Johnny of Trinity; a stepdaughter, Vera Pietsvak of Somerville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
A special thanks to Hospice of the Valley and NHC Nursing Home in Moulton.
