Freshman Jasmine Valdez scored in the first half to lead Brewer to a 1-0 victory over Hartselle Friday in girls’ soccer action at Sparkman Park.
Valdez got the game’s only goal when she beat Hartselle goalie Raine Nichols with a shot from the right side.
Brewer improved to 3-5 overall with the win.
Brewer controlled the first half, keeping the ball in the Hartselle zone for most of the first 30 minutes. But the Lady Patriots had trouble getting past Nichols, who finished with 19 saves.
Hartselle dropped to 2-2-1 with the loss despite playing a solid second half against the Lady Patriots.
Like Brewer, the Lady Tigers are also going through some growing pains this season with new players taking on more important roles this spring.
The two teams will meet again Tuesday at Brewer.
Priceville 2, St. Bernard 1
Jonathan Savoy scored in the second overtime to send Priceville to a 2-1 victory over St. Bernard.
Bob Hall had an assist on the game-winner.
The win helped Priceville move to 4-0 in the Class 1A-4A, Section 5 standings.
Will Cancilla scored the Bulldogs’ first goal in regulation.
Lorand Dragu held St. Bernard to just one goal and didn’t allow a goal in two overtime periods.
Priceville 5, St. Bernard 0
Rachel Fredericks scored twice as Priceville cruised to a 5-0 victory over St. Bernard.
Jordan Crow, Stephanie Varner and Elizabeth Wheeler all added goals for the Lady Bulldogs.
Masey Smith earned the shutout in goal for the Lady Bulldogs.
