Oct. 25, 1957-To the relief of their parents, practically all Auburn students have now received the Asian flu vaccine shots. Forty students were hospitalized with flu before the vaccine campaign began.
Oct. 26, 1957-Today was homecoming at the UA. The special guest was former Tide football standout and then cowboy star Johnny Mack Brown. Unfortunately the football team lost to Mississippi State by the score of 25-13.
Oct. 26, 1957-Morgan County sheriff's deputies conducted a raid on the Little Gem Caf/ here in Hartselle this afternoon. Sheriff Jimmy Collier's men seized four and one-half pints of whiskey during the surprise visit.
Oct. 27, 1957-The annual all-day singing was held today in the Danville H.S. auditorium. Bud Reid is the chairman.
Oct. 28, 1957-The fire department was summoned to Sivley Cotton Co. this morning to put out a blaze that had erupted in a cottonseed storage house.
Oct. 28, 1957-A car wreck occurred here today on South Sparkman Street. Mrs. Jonnie Long was going south when a pick-up truck turned in front of her. She was driving a '57 Dodge which it will cost at least $500 to repair.
Oct. 28, 1957-MCHS suffered a disappointing loss tonight in Russellville. The home team bested the Tigers by a pretty decisive 32-13 score. It was the fourth quarter before Hartselle really came alive. This is when Jimmy Mayfield scored two TDs and Gary Vest made one good PAT.
Oct. 29, 1957-Eighth District Congressman Robert E. (Bob) Jones spoke to the Hartselle Kiwanis Club tonight.
Oct. 30, 1957-Hartselle fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide were happy to learn that a seven-man committee has been appointed by President-elect Frank A. Rose to select a new football coach. The group's charge is to make a thorough study of the most successful coaches in the nation and nominate the best of these who is available to move to UA.
Oct. 31, 1957-Hartselle teens are making a beeline for the Bowline (Drive-in) tonight. The featured attraction is "Jailhouse Rock" starring Elvis Presley in his most dramatic role yet. This will be the first showing of the movie in the South.
Oct. 31, 1957-New officers were installed today by the Morgan County federation of home demonstration clubs. These include Mrs. Paul Prince of Hartselle, first vice-president, and Mrs. Burl Vest, Massey, treasurer. Lucille Hawkins is the county HD agent.
