A graveside service for W.P. Newman, 83, of Hartselle will be Thursday, Oct. 25, at 12:30 p.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with the Rev. Paul Summerford officiating.
Mr. Newman died Monday, Oct 22, 2007, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 12, 1924, in Morgan County. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Iwo Jima. He was an avid Hartselle and Alabama football fan and a longtime supporter of the Hartselle Athletic Booster Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Ruth Newman, and a son, Johnny Newman.
He is survived by a son, Preston Newman of Madison; a sister, Dorothy Bowers of Hartselle; a grandson, Matthew Adam Newman of Madison; and two stepgrandchildren, Steven and Jennifer.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Newman, Bobby Speake, John Oakes, Ray Floyd, Johnny Chandler and Charles Yarbrough.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Burks, Jerry Wilson, J.P. Cain and all past and present members of Hartselle Athletic Booster Club.
