May 24, 1957-The visit of Morgan County High School seniors to the White House today was limited due to the fact that the building, now under repair, may be visited only two hours in each day.
Consequently, very large crowds are present when the doors are at last opened.
May 24, 1957-Billy Pettey, who will be in the 8th grade at Eva High School in the fall, has applied for a patent on a “wake up fire alarm” which he recently invented.
May 24, 1957-Mrs. Lloyd Logan brought her Hartselle third graders to Decatur this morning for a first-hand view of the Coca Cola plant, Alabama Flour Mills, White Way Milk Co., and Decatur Boat Harbor. Chaperones were Mrs. S. D. Weaver, Mrs. Edward W. Summers, Mrs. Coy Sparkman and Mrs. Byrd Dean.
May 25, 1957-Hellon Burns, a student at MCHS, won the top prize
place in the muffin category of a countywide baking contest today. Patricia McClung of Eva baked the best cake; Virginia Wilder, also of Eva, the best pie; and Mary Jane Beall, a third Eva girl, the best biscuits.
May 26, 1955-The Rev. Daryl Harris, pastor of the Lebanon Baptist Church delivered the baccalaureate sermon for Falkville seniors this afternoon.
May 27, 1957-The MCHS senior class is now back in Hartselle after having spent five days touring Washington, D.C. Forty-eight students and three chaperones made the excursion.
May 27, 1957-More and more Hartselle housewives are now doing their grocery shopping at stores that offer trading stamps. The most popular stamps currently are S &H green stamps and Top Value stamps.
May 28, 1957-Dr. Frank R. Stewart, assistant state superintendent of education, was the speaker at MCHS graduation exercises tonight.
May 29, 1957—Morgan County farmers are reminded that under new Social Security regulations they must pay a self-employment tax of 3 percent of their net earnings from farm income into a SS account managed by the IRS.
May 30, 1957-The new armory, now about completed on Vaughan Bridge Road on the western outskirts of the city, should be occupied within a very short time.
May 30, 1957-Florida’s glamorous new hotel, the Sarasota Terrace, is currently offering its luxurious rooms for only $24 for seven days.
