Editor,
The American Legion John F. Thompson Post 52 has been having a Kids Day Christmas Party for the less fortunate children of Hartselle and Morgan County Schools since the 1940s.
Each year, the number of children increases and, with your donation, we will be able to help all the children have a very happy Christmas.
Please be generous and help us make this the best Kids Day Christmas Party ever. Please make your check payable to Kids Day and send all donations to: The American Legion, John F. Thompson Post 52, P.O. Box 242, Hartselle, AL 35640.

Descendents to gather
Editor:
Just wanted you to know that descendants from George Hartselle, the founder of the city of Hartselle, will be in town on Sept. 15 and 16 to observe the Hartselle Heritage Reunion. Ted and Virginia Hartselle are coming up from Florida. Their cousin, Phyllis Henshaw, is coming from San Diego, Calif. with her son. Martha Hartselle will be coming from Birmingham. They are children of Mahlon and Phyllis is daughter of Earl Hartselle.
After the reunion and breakfast at the Tabernacle, Ted and his wife will go to a luncheon with his class of 1949 in Massey. After that they intend to be spending the rest of the day at the Depot Day celebration.

Purple Heart seeks funds
Editor:
The Military Order of the Purple Heart maintains the Purple Heart Memorial located in Sparkman Park. This memorial honors the memory of our fellow citizens from Morgan and Cullman counties who have paid the ultimate price to maintain the freedoms we enjoy in this country. There is also a brick walkway to honor all those who served, not just those who made the supreme sacrifice. It is a place for all veterans and those who love and honor them. It is a place for all citizens who love this country.
During the month of August, the Military Order of the Purple Heart sponsored a memorial service for those who have fallen. Because there were no permanent shelters we’ve used portable shelters for the Memorial Service. They were removed at the conclusion of the services.
Visitors to the shelters had no place to go during inclement weather, to escape the direct sun during the hot months of summer or just a place to sit down and rest in the shade. Many of these visitors are elderly; some are disabled.
A donated 20 foot by 24 foot overhead shelter has been erected at the memorial. We want to have a concrete floor installed. This will require 16 cubic yards of concrete at a cost of $1,340. The Military Order of the Purple Heart does not have sufficient funds to pay for this addition to the shelter. We’re asking your readers for donations to help with this project.
Please send your donations to Military Order of the Purple Heart, Finnis J. Self Chapter 2212 P.O. Box 106, Somerville, AL 35670.
