Sept. 7, 1956 —As far as the upcoming city election is concerned, “single shot” voting won’t be permitted in board of aldermen races. In order for your ballot to be counted you must vote for five—no more, no less.
Sept. 7, 1956 —”Nick” Nicholson, local Ford dealer, is in New Orleans today and tomorrow getting a first view of the 1957 Ford. It is a complete change from rubber to roof.
Sept. 8, 1956 —Billy Sims left last week for Marion where he will attend MMI this year. Max Merrill, Bobby Ray Hicks, and Joe and Ike Groover left this week for Tuscaloosa to enroll at UA for the fall term. Helen and Rhona Howell will soon resume their collegiate studies at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
Sept. 9, 1956 —A home occupied since 1903 by members of the same family was sold last week and a new family will be in residence there soon.
Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Whitman sold their home, better known as the old Dr. Sherrill home on South Sparkman Street, to B. R. Stidham of Montgomery. Mrs. Whitman is the daughter of the late Dr. R. B. Sherrill.
Sept. 10, 1956 —An engineering survey is being made to see if telephone service is practical for the Neel community. Neel is not now served by any telephone company.
Sept. 11, 1956 —A whopping big enrollment of 699 was reported this morning by F. E. Burleson, principal of Hartselle Elementary School, 64 more than last year.
Sept.12, 1956 —Henry Charles Dorr died at his home today. Survivors include a son, Bill, who for several years was associated with the Enquirer. Following the funeral tomorrow burial will be at Bethel Baptist cemetery.
Sept. 13, 1956 —The MCHS Tigers opened their 1956 football season in fine style tonight, knocking down a highly capable Tanner team by the score of 12-6. The locals’ first score came from the five-yard line on a pitchout from QB Brownie Dean to FB Karl Estes.
Estes made the Tigers’ second TD on another pitchout from the 15. Tommy Ed Roberts, a great tackle and kicker, also stood out among MCHS’s best performers tonight.
Sept. 13, 1956 —His classmates at MCHS report that Wayne Barclift is having locker problems (no door).
