Harold Lloyd Blanton, M.D.

Funeral for Harold Lloyd Blanton, M.D., 81, of Cullman will be Thursday, (today), August 3, at 3 p.m. at Baldwin Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David McGowan, and the Revs. James Parker and Steve Rodgers officiating.
Entombment will be at Cullman Memory Gardens with Williams-McCracken Funeral Home directing.
Dr. Blanton died Monday, July 31, 2006, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born November 18, 1924, in Monroe County to Edward Norris Blanton and Belle Feaster Blanton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Charles E. Blanton.
Dr. Blanton was a dedicated Christian, family man and physician who practiced medicine for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from the University of Alabama Medical College, served his surgical residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and began a family practice in Hartselle in 1956. He practiced in Waverly, Tenn. from 1970 to 1975 and in Moulton from 1975 to 2005. He was currently employed with Cullman Long Term Care. Dr. Blanton was a certified emergency room physician, held a CMD for Geriatric care, a fellowship in the Southeastern Surgical Congress and a fellowship in the American Academy of Family Practice.
He had been a licensed pilot since 1962 and enjoyed hunting, water sports and skeet shooting.
He was an active member of Baldwin Heights Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Joan Harp Blanton of Cullman; two sons, Gordon Blanton and wife Martha and Jeffrey Blanton, all of Cullman; three daughters, Marsha S. Bean of Pensacola, Fla., Valerie B. Tollison and husband Michael of Nashville, Tenn. and Bethany B. Lamar and husband A.J.; ten grandchildren, Kim B. Shelton, Shane Blanton, Bryan Cross, Lauren Reeves, Adrienne Reeves, Steven Parnell, Tyler Parnell, Zach Blanton, Calet Blanton and Jay Blanton Lamar; four stepgrandchildren, Jelia Day, Jodi Dubose, Cody Tollison and Tanner Tollison; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; two sisters, Theresa Whitney and husband Sol of Hains City, Fla. and Linda Lynam and husband William of Mableton, Ga.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Cross, Steven Parnell, Tyler Parnell, Caleb Blanton, Michael Wilbanks, Philip White, Joey Lynam and Charles Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Baldwin Heights Baptist Church Building Fund at 2489 U.S. Highway 278, West, Cullman, AL 35057.
