July 28, 1956 -Leonard Carl, who bought Horton's Grocery six weeks ago, now is closing out the business.
July 29, 1956 -Groover Tractor &Equipment Co., the local Ford farm machinery dealer, will soon relocate to a new masonry and brick building on U.S. 31 at the south edge of town. This was announced this week by H. L. Groover, proprietor.
July 30, 1956 -Claude, Jr., and Wesley Lavender arrived by plane tonight from their home in Houston, Texas, to spend the month of August with their grandmother, Mrs. C. B. Lavender.
July 30, 1956 -People here and around the nation were expressing thanks today that "In God We Trust" is now officially the motto of the United States.
July 31, 1956 -D. L. St. John and John Cloud are competing to be mayor of Falkville for the next four years.
Aug. 1, 1956 -Mrs. Opal Stewart returned home today from a three-week visit to Los Angeles.
Aug. 1, 1956-Wonder of wonders, an automatic telephone-answering device has been installed at the Ranch Theatre. When one calls the Ranch the machine's voice tells the caller what features are playing, who the movie's stars are, and the show times. If a caller wishes to leave a message he merely tells it to the machine and a recording is made for Pruitt Hodges, theatre manager.
Aug. 2, 1956 – A veteran of nearly 30 years as a police officer, L. P. Darnell, 60, passed away this afternoon following an illness of little more than an hour. The deceased joined the Hartselle police force nearly nine years ago.
Aug. 2, 1956 -Peck Funeral Home has been completely redecorated inside and out and air conditioning has been added. A staff consisting of Leonard Sterling, Tolan Whitten, Don Key, Harry Lyle, and Robert Peck assists J. E. Peck, the owner of this business.
Aug. 2, 1956 -Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Roberts and daughters are in St. Louis, Mo., this week buying fall merchandise and enjoying a short vacation.
