Hartselle American 11/12 opens with split

The Hartselle American 11/12-Year-Old All-Stars split the first two games of their sub-division tournament at Sparkman Park this weekend. Hartselle American opened the tournament Friday with an 8-4 win over Decatur Central before losing 6-1 to Athens National Saturday.

Cody Letson pitched the complete game for Hartselle American, which overcame an initial 2-0 Decatur lead to take the opener of the Sub-district tournament Friday night at Sparkman Park.
Hartselle scored four runs in the third inning, with Tillman Landers, Christopher Holloway, Gavin Marsh and Garrett Fowler each crossing the plate. J.W. Jenkins, Marsh and Fowler each had RBIs in the inning.
The Americans added three more runs in the fourth inning to break open a 4-4 tie. Dalton Stisher, Letson and Zane Hamlett each scored runs in the inning with Letson picking up an RBI single.
Fowler scored an insurance run for Hartselle with a solo home run in the sixth inning. He and Marsh each finished the game 2-for-3.
After working through early trouble, Letson closed the game on a roll, retiring seven of the last eight batters he faced.

Decatur Aquadome Sub-district 7/8-Year-Olds: Morgan County Central 11, Hartselle National 1; Hartselle National 13, Morgan National East 3; Hartselle National 13, Decatur American Red 11; Hartselle National 13, Decatur Central 11.
