John Edwin Knight Sr.

Funeral for John Edwin Knight Sr., 94, of Falkville was Wednesday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Falkville First Baptist Church with Dr. R. E. Glaze Jr., former pastor at Falkville First Baptist Church and the Rev. Buddy Champion, pastor at First Baptist Church in Decatur officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery.
Mr. Knight died Sunday, March 19, at his residence. He was born June 12, 1911, in Morgan County to William Edwin Knight and Annie Virginia Patterson Knight. He attended Howard College (now Samford University) and Auburn University. He was a lifelong member of Falkville First Baptist Church where he taught a senior men's Sunday School class up until his death and was actively involved in Sunday school teaching for more than 76 years. He served on numerous pastor search committees and as a deacon.
Mr. Knight was a retired rural mail carrier and a lifelong cattle farmer. He taught World War II veterans on their return from military service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jewell Crawford Knight, who died in 2002; three sisters, Eloise Richards, Ruby Knight and Virginia Hough; and a brother, Eugene Knight.
He is survived by one son, John Edwin Knight Jr. and wife Charlotte of Decatur; a brother, Dr. William Eric Knight of Huntsville; two grandchildren, John Edward "Chip" Knight III and wife Elaine and LeeAnn Baggett and husband Jim; and two great-grandchildren, John Russell Baggett and Brody Leeman Knight.
Pallbearers were Joe Edmondson, Kenneth Richards, Bob Ramey, Wayne Coots, Chris Blevins and Mike Tarpley.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Drinkard, members of his Sunday school class and Falkville First Baptist Church deacons.
Memorials may be made to Falkville First Baptist Church or to Hospice of the Valley.
