Joseph Louis 'J.L.' Lemmond

Funeral for Joseph Louis "J.L." Lemmond, 80, of Somerville was Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. at Center Springs Methodist Church with the Revs. Gary Webster, P. J. Jenkins and Larry Carter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Lemmond died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at his residence. He was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Morgan County to Cyrus Mason Lemmond and Jessie Sue Wallace Lemmond. He was a 1943 graduate of Cotaco High School. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged a decorated veteran in 1947. Among the many medals he received was the Combat Infantry Badge, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
Upon his return home, he began to farm and farming was still a large part of his life until his death. He retired from Monsanto after 28 years of service as an instrument mechanic. He was preceded in death by a wife, Bonnie Johnson Lemmond; a brother, Willard Mason Lemmond; and a grandson, Jerry Dewayne Lemmond.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Garrison Houser Lemmond of Somerville; two sons, Michael Ray Lemmond of Somerville and Bradley Joseph Lemmond of Taylors, S.C.; four step-daughters, Linda Houser Fowler of Nashville, Tenn., Patricia Houser Grantland of Brooksville, Wanda Houser McKinney of Gardendale and Teresa Houser Pyke of Somerville; a brother, Boyd Dennis Lemmond of Alexander City; a sister, Lona Faye St. John of Somerville; two grandchildren; two-great grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Charles Maples, Donnie Williams, Donnie Grantland, Jarold Grantland, Jason Golden and Clint Lawrence.
Honorary pallbearers were Quentin Golden, Abby Golden, Ashleigh Lemmond, Hunter Griffin, Nichole Griffin, Kaylin Simonis, Delaney Simonis and Kelsi Lemmond.
