Brewer fell behind early and could not come back Friday night in a 59-25 loss to the Cullman Bearcats.
Cullman received the opening kickoff and easily made their first down. One of Cullman's players was down from an apparently shocking tackle. Every one of the players dropped to their knees, hoping that the player was okay and that the game would continue.
After a minute or two, the player got up and the game proceeded. Cullman was on its fourth down so John Nyquist kicked a field goal, making the score 3-0 with 10:30 still left in the game.
On Cullman's next drive, Michael Timmons broke free for a 14-yard touchdown run.
Brewer's Travis Campbell made a first down on the Patriots' next offensive possession, but they had to kick to Cullman on fourth down. Cullman quickly passed Brewer, even with a holding penalty against them. Cullman scored again on a 2-yard run by Cody McCroy and ended the quarter with 17 points.
Brewer surprised Cullman as quarterback Lucas Wilson rushed for a first down and Campbell grabbed two more first downs. Joseph Burton ripped past Cullman for another first down. Then Rodney Childs caught a 15-yard touchdown pass. The kick was no good and the score was 17-6 in favor of the visitors.
Cullman countered with a 60-yard touchdown by Terry Colton. Brewer lost the ball to an interception but Eric Hughes would later recover a Cullman fumble to give the Patriots the ball back. But a short offensive drive gave Cullman the ball back and they scored on a 14-yard pass from quarterback Carson Williams to Russell Miller. The first half ended with Brewer at 6 and Cullman at 31.
Cullman added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, a 41-yard touchdown reception by Terry and an 8-yard reception by Miller to put the game out of reach and lead the Bearcats to start subbing for the first team.
Brewer claimed its first down by Travis Campbell, who acquired a majority of the team's first downs. Lucas Wilson made a 38-yard run and Burton got it inside the 10-yard line before Brewer finally scored again on a 9-yard run by Wilson. The quarter ended with Brewer trailing 42-15.
Cullman quickly scored another touchdown on a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Kyle Johnson to Chase Maddox. Cullman later fumbled in the Brewer end zone and the Patriots' Brian Stevens recovered it for a touchdown.
Rodney Childs scored a late touchdown for Brewer and Cullman then scored with a 58-yard pass to close out the game.
