The city of Hartselle is accepting bids from licensed general contractors for the repair and renovation of the old Dencraft Furniture Manufacturing Co. building at 100 College Street, according to Jeff Johnson, director of the Department of Development.
The first of two bid notices was published in the Hartselle Enquirer last week. The deadline for bids is Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.
The project includes new restrooms in the main building, re-certification of sprinkler and gas heating systems, new overhead lighting, replacement of metal siding and roofing on east side addition, installation of two overhead doors and a concrete pad in the dock area and preparing the exterior for re-painting.
When the work is completed, the building will be occupied by Premier Manufacturing Co. of Addison.
According to an agreement reached between the two parties last June, the city will foot the bill to make improvements specified by the lessee and, in return, receive $2,400 per month rent for five years, with a personal guarantee of rental payments for a minimum of three years. The lessee will maintain the interior of the building while the city will take care of its exterior.
In preparation for work, city employees cleaned out the building, installed concrete blocks in wall openings and removed a mobile office building and two roof-mounted dust cyclones.
