Aug. 25, 1955 -Morgan County has a new coroner. Governor James E. Folsom has named Lewis C. "Pinky" Brown, proprietor of Brown Funeral Company, to this position. Mr. Brown will complete the term of Joe Morrison who quit the job a few days ago.
Aug. 26, 1955 – MCHS football coach Tony Daniel has only two starters (tackle Bobby Cooper and halfback Don Cordar) coming back for this season's gridiron wars. A recent coaches' poll had his Tigers finishing last among TVC teams this season. The squad consists of 45 members. Others who saw enough action last season to earn an "M" include Billy Don Aldridge (center), David Buckelew (tackle), Karl Estes (fullback), Auburn Foote (guard), Bobby Shaneyfelt (quarterback), and Joe Wright (guard). The squad is a light one, averaging only about 150 pounds per man.
Aug. 27, 1955-A car wash was held today to raise money for the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Teens doing the work included Mary Orr, Gene Horton, Carolyn and Lee Block, Judy Newman, and Ann Blizzard.
Aug. 28, 1955 -Robert Peck, Edward Lacy Monroe, and Frank Stewart left this morning for Fort Jackson, S.C., where they will attend a two-weeks' army reserve camp.
Aug. 29, 1955 -Mrs. Cline Thompson will operate a kindergarten again this year as she has during the past few years.
Aug. 30, 1955 -Groover Tractor and Equipment Company opened its doors officially this week as the authorized representative of Morgan County for Ford tractors, and the related Dearborn farm equipment. H. L. Groover, veteran farm machinery dealer of Hartselle, heads the company that is located on South Sparkman Street, near the county agent's building.
Aug. 31, 1955 -Female participants in the classroom cleanup day at MCHS included Joyce Payne, Katherine Anne Dunaway, Nancy Jo Burleson, Joy Sue Gibson, Shirley Walker, Alma McKee, Peggy and Jimmie Alvis, Flora Hammond, Virginia Fitzgerald, and Mary Frances Wright. Among the guys working were Robert Slate, Franklin Penn, Eddie Roy, Bubba Burleson, and Tommy Smith.
