July 21, 1955 -Multiple thousands of dollars in damages were incurred in a fire late tonight at Smith's Restaurant in downtown Hartselle. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, owners of the modern new eatery, plan to begin repairs to their establishment immediately.
July 21, 1955 -Moses and Brown have now been in the furniture business in Hartselle for six months, in the location of the old Corsbie Furniture. They are very pleased with the reception they have received from customers in Hartselle and surrounding areas.
July 22, 1955 -Wayne Barclift celebrated his fifteenth birthday with friends today. He is the son of Wray and Belle Barclift.
July 23, 1955 -H. L. and R. A. Payne, proprietors of Hartselle's Payne Brothers Cotton Gin, have recently sold their business to Virgil Bailey.
July 24, 1955 -Under the command of Lt. Orval D. Proctor, Company C, 1343rd Engineer Battalion, the Hartselle National Guard unit, left this morning for their yearly two-week training exercise at Fort McClellan.
July 25, 1955 -Collins Cleaners opened this morning in the Nesmith building on East Main Street where Bentham's Trading Post used to be.
July 25, 1955 -Due to severely overcrowded conditions it is obvious to all school patrons that a new elementary school is badly needed here.
July 26, 1955 -Former Hartselle Mayor and Mrs. S. M. Nelson are currently enjoying summer visits from family members, including son Willard and his family from Mineral Springs, Tex., and daughter, Mrs. P. R. Payne from Dallas.
July 26, 1955 -Mrs. H. M. Betterton played hostess this evening to fellow members of the Homemakers Club at her lovely home on Vaughn Bridge Road. This was the yearly family night picnic enjoyed by more than 50 members and invited guests.
July 27, 1955 -One of Hartselle's most distinguished educators, Mr. I. F. Stallworth, principal of the Morgan County Training School, is currently participating in a leadership program at A &M College in Huntsville.
July 27, 1955 -Mrs. Ollie Belle Roan and Mrs. Lee Palmer and daughter, Betty, are planning to take a vacation trip to the Great Lakes region in the near future.
