WEST POINT – The image must have brought back bad memories for Brewer Patriot fans. When Lawrence County's Miles King took a pitchout on a toss sweep, turned the corner of the Brewer defense and raced 70 yards for a score on the game's opening play, Brewer fan's must have thought this was the same old Brewer football program. The same program which ended a 21-game losing streak in 2004.
However, for the rest of the spring game against the Red Devils, it wasn't the same old Patriots at all, as they dominated the rest of the spring football contest between the two schools winning, 24-7.
After King's scoring play, the Pats marched 63 yards and cut the lead to four on Wes Brasher's 24-yard field goal.
After forcing a punt, the Pats drove for the go-ahead score as Lucas Wilson found Rodney Childs open in the end zone from 21 yards out. The point after gave Brewer a 10-7 lead.
In the second period, Joseph Burton scored on a 30-yard run around the left side.
Brewer closed out the scoring when Wilson threw eight yards to Chris Humphries.
Wilson lead the Brewer attack with 56 yards passing and two scores, while Travis Campbell lead the ground game with 81 yards on four carries from is fullback position.
Burton finished with 60 yards on nine carries, while Wilson added 23 yards and Logan Black 17 yards on three carries.
Burton also took a screen pass for a 28-yard gain.
Miles Cloer had an interception for the Pats to end a Lawrence County drive inside the Pats 10-yard line.
The finals two periods for Brewer were played against the Good Hope Raiders. The Brewer junior varsity lost to the Raiders' JV by a 7-0 count. Then both varsity units played one period and ended in a seven-all tie, as the Pats drove 70 yards in the final 1:18 to tie the game.
Brewer head coach Billy Coleman went for the tie instead of the win because he felt his team had worked to hard to get close and lose.
