Billy P. Tarpley

Funeral for Billy P. Tarpley, 76, of Somerville will be Thursday (today), May 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Harlon Hood officiating.
Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Tarpley died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Sierra Springs Retirement Assisted Living. He was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Pulaski, Tenn. to the late Jerome R. Tarpley and Nina Leford Tarpley. He was a former employee of U.S. Steel Corp., American Bridge Division, Birmingham, and the former owner of B. P. Tarpley General Merchandise. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Somerville Fraternal Lodge of Masons No. 721. Mr. Tarpley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gurley Tarpley.
He is survived by one son, Mike Tarpley of Falkville; one daughter, Susan Tarpley Lovell of Decatur; one sister, Jo Slaten of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Heath Lovell, Casey Lovell Little and Jade Tarpley.
Pallbearers will be Steve Gullion, Mike Childers, Don Murphy, Vaughn Moon, Joe Crawford, Hoyt Henry, James Russell and Leonard Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Somerville Masonic Lodge.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
