Hartselle softball tops Muscle Shoals, Pisgah

Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
The Hartselle High softball team is in an unusual position as the regular season nears its completion. The Lady Tigers finished second in 5A, Area 16. The Athens Lady Golden Eagles won the crown thanks to a 4-1 win Friday night. The runner-up finish isn't important in the big scheme of things however, as the area tournament determines the two teams who advance to the state playoffs.
Head coach Shane Alexander is confident the Lady Tigers and the Lady Golden Eagles will tangle again come tourney time.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Tigers topped the Lady Trojans of Muscle Shoals, 6-1.
Athens 4, Hartselle 1
Breanna Segars slipped to 2-5 despite allowing only one earned run and five hits. She struck out six and walked two.
The Lady Tigers left 12 runners on base, as they twice had the bases loaded with no outs and couldn't score runs.
Hartselle's lone run came when Kayla Orr singled in the fourth inning and reached third after two errors loaded the bases. Orr came home when Haley Miller was hit by a pitch.
The loss dropped the Hartselle record to 13-10 overall.
Hartselle 6, Muscle Shoals 1
Mary Curtis improved to 6-5 overall with seven innings of seven-hit ball. She walked two and struck out one.
In the second inning, the Lady Tigers scored four runs. Jessica Barbrey was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Shanice Johnson single. Barbrey scored when Lindsay Robinson singled. Then Orr drove in both runners with a three-run homer.
Orr finished two-for-two, while Elizabeth Stejskal and Barbrey added hits later in the contest.
Hartselle 4, Pisgah 0
On Monday night, Curits fired a three-hitter and struck out six to improve to 7-5.
Johnson smashed a solo home run, added a double, scored twice and drove in three.
Whitlow had a hit and scored once, while Orr had two hits.
