Thanksgiving is just a week away.
1915 -November 18, Due to lower supplies and higher demand, the price of the Thanksgiving bird will be very high this year for those who live in town and have to buy their turkeys.
1898 -November 19, A special train will be run from Auburn to Atlanta on Thanksgiving Day for the Auburn-Georgia football game. A large number of Auburn cadets will go to the game. Both teams are said to be very evenly matched, and this year's game is exciting unusual interest.
1940 -November 20, Union Thanksgiving services were held at the Baptist church tonight. Rev. J. F. T. Brown, the Methodist minister, gave the main message.
1947 -November 20, Hartselle people without cars are thankful that the Silver Top taxi stand has been moved to the Sinclair service station on the highway. Since Sinclair is open 24 hours a day, this means calling a cab is possible round the clock.
1943 -November 21, Thanksgiving travel will again be very restricted this year. The current ration coupons issued by the gasoline board are good for only five gallons of gas.
1944 -November 22, Petty Officer J. C. Pettey, U.S.N.R., and Beulah Young were married this afternoon at her parents' home in Moulton.
1929 -November 23, The many friends of longtime Hartselle businessman S. E. Stewart are thankful that he is now on the road to recovery following a very serious illness.
1940 -November 24, Margaret Payne, Jean Freeman, Elizabeth Houston, John Puryear, and Billy Don Mitchell, students at the University of Alabama, will spend Thanksgiving here with homefolks.
1949 -November 24, Yesterday afternoon, while returning to their homes for the Thanksgiving holidays, Robbie Quinn, Robert Stephenson, and several other Auburn students had a narrow escape in a car-train accident at the edge of Alex City. They were in the car of Euell Russell of Austinville, which was unable to clear the railroad tracks because of a car ahead. The train struck the front of their car and badly wrecked it. Thankfully, none of the students was injured.
