Guns, knives seized from suspects
Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
Police throughout the area worked quickly to apprehend two armed men in Hartselle last week.
Hartselle Police received a 911 call Sept. 29 from Bill Davenport, 1197 Parker Road, who reported finding two men dressed in black and wearing ski masks inside his home.
According to police, the two men were armed with fully loaded semi-automatic handguns, as well as a stun gun and baton.
Davenport struggled with the two suspects and was struck in the head during the incident. He was able to escape the house and phone police from a nearby residence.
The suspects fled the house on foot.
HOD was assisted by the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, Somerville Police Department, Falkville Police Department and Alabama State Troopers in setting a perimeter around the area. The Limestone Correctional K-9 Search Unit was called to the scene and able to track and locate the suspects on Tabernacle Road almost two hours later.
The suspects, Clent Adam Freeman, 28, and Kirtis Wade Bevis, 35, both of Florence, were transported to Hartselle City Jail and charged with first degree burglary, third degree criminal mischief, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Both suspects were later transferred to Morgan County Jail and each held on a $110,000 bond.
Police also recovered binoculars, two-way radios, a bulletproof vest, zip ties, a roll of duct tape, gloves, bowie and bayonet knives, flashlights, backpacks, brass knuckles, an assortment of tools, and fugitive recovery agent identifications.
Davenport was treated for his injury and released from a local hospital.
