Lady Hawks soar to Montgomery

DANVILLE – The Lady Hawks will be searching for their first ever state softball title this weekend. Danville qualified for the state championships for the first time since changing to the fast-pitch game.
Danville whipped Colbert County in the decisive third game of the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
"We're excited," Danville head coach Tanya Sparkman said. "The girls are excited to be going. I'm very proud of each one of these girls for all they have accomplished this year."
The win sends the Lady Hawks to Montgomery for the state championships beginning on May 13 at 9 a.m. when they face T.R. Miller High School.
The Lady Hawks had spilt the first two games with the Lady Indians, winning the fist game 7-3 and dropping the second game 10-5.

Katie James threw a three-hit shutout to key the decisive win.
All nine starters had hits for Danville. Casey Sparkman led the way with two triples, a double and four RBIs. Katie James had a double, a triple and two RBIs while Kristen Sparkman drove in two runs with a single. Kristy Roberts had a triple and a double while Emily Templeton had a double and a single. Charleston Wilson, Bethany Evans and Tonya Howard had two singles each. Haley Hensley had a single.
Other team members include Mallory Alred, Kayla Voketz and Cassie Cowart.
First year coach Sparkman has guided the Lady Hawks to a 41-17 record this season. Danville's one-two pitching duo of Katie James and Kristen Sparkman has posted 19-9 and 14-6 records respectively on the mound this season.
