Hartselle wins Tiger Classic

The top ranked Hartselle Lady Tigers are once again the champions of the Tiger Classic. Hartselle whipped Mortimer Jordan 2-0 in an eight-inning final. Hartselle had lost to the Blue Devils in pool play 4-0, but bounced back in the final behind the pitching of Sabrina Roberts.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Tigers split four games on a road trip to Mobile for the Baker High tournament.
Tuscaloosa County 4, Hartselle 3
Sabrina Roberts lost her first game of the year allowing seven hits and three earned runs in six innings. Roberts struck out three and walked one.
Anna Byrd was 2-for-2 at the plate with one run scored while Roberts was 1-for-3 with a RBI.
Hartselle 5,
Reidland, KY 1
In game two of the Baker High tourney, JJ Lawrimore improved her record to 5-2 with a four-hit pitching performance.
Lawrimore struck out four while walking three.
Shan Jones led the Hartselle hitters with a 2-for-4 day with one run scored.
Sarah Whitlow went 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI.

Hartselle 3
The defending 6A state champions beat the defending 5A state champs behind the pitching of Tara Donaldson who improved to 18-1 this season.
Sabrina Roberts took the loss to slip to 7-2. Roberts struck out four and walked two while allowing only two earned runs.
Shan Jones went 3-for-4 with two doubles with two runs scored.
Roberts was 1-for-2 with a three-run triple. Shanice Johnson was 2-for-2 while Rachel Davidson went 1-for-2.

St. Pauls 2
Elizabeth Stejskal picked up her first win of the year with four innings of five-hit pitching. Stejskal struck out four and walked one.
Sarah McNutt pitched three innings of one-hit relief and struck out three.
At the plate, JJ Lawrimore and Sarah Whitlow both went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Lawrimore had one RBI. Anna Byrd and Jessica Barbrey each went 2-for-4, Byrd scored twice while Barbrey scored once.
Sabrina Roberts had a two-RBI double and scored one run.

Cullman 0
The Lady Tigers won a midweek 5A-Area 15 game over the Lady Bearcats.
Sarah McNutt picked up her first win of the season with a seven-inning four hit performance. McNutt struck out five batters and issued no walks.
Shanice Johnson and Rachel Carden both went 2-for-3 with one run scored. Carden crushed a two-run homer in the sixth inning after Johnson had doubled in the first Lady Tiger run.

Buckhorn 3
Hartselle won the opening game of pool play at he 2004 Tiger Classic with a come from behind win.
JJ Lawrimore upped her record to 6-2 with a complete game. Lawrimore scattered nine hits while walking one and striking out one batter.
Shan Jones was 1-for-1 with a solo homer in the third inning. With Hartselle trailing 3-2, Sarah Whitlow delivered a game winning two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Mortimer Jordan 4, Hartselle 0
Sabrina Roberts slipped to 8-3 on the season while allowing eight hits and two earned runs.
Roberts struck out four and walked none.
Sarah Whitlow was 1-for-2 and picked up the Lady Tigers only hit.

Bob Jones 0
Elizabeth Stejskal improved to 2-0 while throwing a five-inning no-hitter. She struck out one and did not issue a walk.
JJ Lawrimore went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs while Shanice Johnson went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Rachel Carden went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Decatur 2
The Lady Tigers reached the semi-finals of the Tiger Classic behind the three-hit pitching of Sabrina Roberts. Roberts struck out three and walked no one as she improved to 9-3 on the season.
Sabrina Roberts went 2-for-2 with four RBIs while JJ Lawrimore went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Rachel Davidson went 2-for-3 while Sarah Whitlow had one RBI.
Hartselle 3,
John Carroll 0
JJ Lawrimore (7-2) struck out nine while throwing a shutout to earn the Lady Tigers a rematch with Mortimer Jordan in the finals.
Rachel Carden went 2-for-3 with a double and two-run homer.
Ashley Wiseheart was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI while Sabrina Roberts went 2-for-4. JJ Lawrimore and Sarah Whitlow each went 1-for-3 and scored one run.
Hartselle 2,
Mortimer Jordan 0
Sabrina Roberts improved to 10-3 with an eight-inning three-hitter. Roberts struck out 11 and walked none.
Anna Byrd and Rachel Carden each had one RBI. Byrd went 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Lady Tigers are now 21-6 overall and 4-0 in 5A-Area 15 play.
