James Edward Alvis

A graveside service for James Edward Alvis, 82, of Gardendale was Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. at Bell Springs Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Alvis died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Cullman. He was retired from Associated Grocers of the South and a veteran of World War II, having spent 3 1/2 years in the European theatre. He participated in seven major battles, including the seventh wave at Normandy Beachhead.
He is survived by his wife, Iva Mae Millican Alvis; three sons, Lester Nuby Jr., James Donald Alvis and K. Rick Alvis, all of Birmingham; one daughter, Wilma Reno of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Sandra Jackson, Kimberly Witcher, Leslie Lochamy, Lester Nuby III, Stewart James Alvis and Millican Grace Alvis; and seven great grandchildren, Amber Pope, Alan Jackson, Scott Jackson, Allison Ann Jackson, Tabitha Alvis, Kirstin Witcher and Tanner Pope.
