Funeral for former West Warwick Town Councilman Carl Brown Jr., 74, of Flynn Terrace, West Warwick, R.I., was Friday, Aug. 15, at 9 a.m. at the Robert A. Iannotti &Sons Funeral Home in Coventry with a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in West Warwick.
Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
Mr. Brown died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick. He was born in Falkville on March 4, 1929, to Carl and Nancy Foote Brown of Falkville. He had lived in Rhode Island since 1950.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He had a productive Naval career in Memphis, Tenn., where he attended AD school. From there he went to VC 12 NAS Quonset Point in 1949. He also played baseball for the Quonset Flyers where he was nicknamed "The Rabbit" for his pitching and running speed. He was a member of Pasco Senerchia Post 74 in Natick.
In 1972, he earned an associate's degree in law enforcement from Salve Regina. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in 1975. In 1979, he graduated from the prestigious FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia F. Lombardi Brown of West Warwick; two sons, Robert A. Brown of North Kingstown and Ronald "Ronnie" A. Brown of West Warwick; two daughters, Patricia A. Laferriere of Scituate and Beverly A. Pacheco, both of West Warwick; one sister, Johnny Ruth Walling of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Kristen, Trevor, Colby, Michael, Ashley, and Winn; and several nieces and nephews.
