Science fun part of Halloween events
Destined to be Sci-Quest's signature event, "Spooktacular Science" is a month-long celebration of science with a Halloween twist.
Each weekend in October, Sci-Quest will offer Halloween-themed programs and activities for children of all ages.
Public activities for Spooktacular Science will be held each Saturday in October from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and each Sunday in October from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Theme activities for the remainder of the month include last weekend Sweet Science on Oct. 11 and 12. On these dates, visitors can treat themselves as they discover candy bar density, bubble gum mass and how to make their own soda. Other activities for the month include Dem Bones on Oct. 18 and 19, and Mummies and Masks on Oct. 25 and 26.
The culmination of the month-long Spooktacular Science event is a family-friendly Halloween Party on Friday, Oct. 31, from 6-9 p.m., featuring games, activities, tricks and treats.
Rounding out the evening is a costume contest where creativity and ingenuity not only count, they're a requirement. The price for the Halloween Party is $5 per person. A complete list of Spooktacular Science activities is available at www.sci-quest.org.

Auditions set for up-coming Christmas play
Auditions for "My Three Angels" is set for Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Decatur. The church is located on Danville Road at West Meade by Austin High School.
Adult parts are available for seven men and three women. There are no walk-on only parts. A preview script is available for a $5 refundable deposit.

Fall harvest festival will benefit Magic Moments
Some local businesses are teaming up to raise money for an organization that gives ill children their wishes.
The Morgan/Lawrence Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and the Troy Lindsey Memorial Fund will host a Fall Harvest Festival and Car and Motorcycle Show Oct. 17 at the Mutual Savings Life Insurance Company home office. The office is located at 2801 Highway 31 South in Decatur
The festival will benefit Magic Moments, an organization that works to provide special occasions for children with life-altering illnesses or injuries.
The car and and motorcycle show will be from 2-6 p.m., and the entertainment from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Featured entertainers are Elvis tribute artist Michael Dean, up and coming country music performer Chad Bradford and Marion Ramsey, star of the Police Academy films.

Red Cross holds training classes
The Morgan-Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be holding basic disaster training during the month of October.
