Many young people from this area are now away from home for the first extended period, attending college within and outside the state.
1960-October 2, Jimmy Millwood of Hartselle is the new executive editor of the Diorama, the Florence State College student yearbook.
1883-October 3, Hartselle's Union Male and Female College is doing a thriving business under the leadership of President Thomas Morrow. Young people from throughout the county are boarding in local homes while they matriculate at the college.
1953-October 3, Scotty Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Stone, Jr., is a student at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va.
1897-October 4, J. W. and J. M. McKee, Henry Oden and T. M. M. McAnier are the new boarding pupils who entered the Hartselle College today.
1915-October 4, H. B. Hardwick and his sister Mary are currently students at Southern Christian College at West Point, Miss. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Hardwick.
1899-October 5, The University of Alabama anticipates an enrollment of close to 200 matriculates when classes resume in a few days.
1906-October 5, On account of illness Bessie Puckett has been obliged temporarily to abandon her studies at Alabama Synodical College at Talladega and return home to Hartselle.
1898-October 6, Thomas, son of Morgan County attorney S. T. Wert, has lately been promoted from the rank of sergeant to captain of company C at Auburn College.
1948-October 6, Beth Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Howell, is a senior at Birmingham-Southern College this fall. She is a music major.
1926-October 7, Edith Dunaway of Hartselle is currently enrolled in Athens College and is active in the Apollo Club.
1933-October 8, Both Cleo and Carmen Tanner are now students at Florence State Teachers College.
