My nephew, Collier, will be three next month. He and his brother recently got new bunkbeds. Isaac, the older of the two, sleeps on the top and Collier sleeps on the bottom bed. Still, Collier loves to climb to the top bunk, smiling down at me with a look of almost-three-year-old pride.
The last time I saw him, he climbed on top of the bunk bed and made an attempt to jump up and down on the mattress, something his parents do not allow him to do. He took one big jump and promptly hit his head on the ceiling.
He looked at me. I looked at him. He got down off the bed and walked off.
Lesson learned – don't jump on the top bunk because you will hit the ceiling and hurt your head.
He may be three, but he's no fool. Collier learned his lesson.
Former Alabama football coach Mike Price did not.
Coach Mike Price had a date with Destiny in Pensacola, Fla. recently and came out on the losing end.
Collier is three. Mike Price is 57. Apparently, age has nothing to do with intelligence.
Alabama's former football coach made a bad decision when he visited a strip-joint in Florida a couple of weeks ago. He made an even worse decision when he invited some woman to his room and then left her alone there. She promptly ran up a $1,000 room service bill. (In her defense, if you've seen the cost of room service lately, you realize she probably got some chicken wings and a Diet Coke, but that's besides the point.)
Mike Price had 10 million reasons to stay on the straight and narrow. Instead, he cashed in his chips for $1 dollar bills that ended up tucked in one of Arety's Angels g-string.
And Saturday, we had to listen to Coach Price talk about second chances and the need for forgiveness.
I agree.
However, I think Coach Price had his second chance and the one he needs to be begging forgiveness from is his stricken-looking wife in the front row.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the taped phone message I had received from Coach Price, inviting fans out to the A-Day Game. I should have gone, at least to say I saw him coach in Bryant-Denney Stadium.
I'm disappointed. And upset. And sick of adults acting like babies and then whining about it.
You did it. Face up and fess up.
I do have a couple of solutions: the first is to hire a female football coach. You wouldn't have to worry about strip bars with a woman at the helm.
Or you can hire Collier. He's got lots of energy and he learns from his mistakes.
