James Walter Knox

Funeral for James Walter Knox, 78, of Hartselle was Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry McElroy officiating.
A graveside military service was in McKendree Cemetery in Danville.
Mr. Knox died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Parkway Medical Center. A native of Morgan County, he was a private first class in the U.S. Army from February 1943 through November 1945. He served in the European Theater with the 101st Airborne Glider Troops. He served also with Gen. George Patton with the 10th Armored Division. He was missing in action for 107 days. He received three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heat, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Sharpshooter Carbine Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Martha N. Davis Knox of Hartselle; one son, James Stanley Knox of Los Angeles; two daughters, Joan Spindler of Falkville and Janice Knox Stowell of Seattle; two brothers, Oscar L. Knox and Odis J. Knox, both of Hartselle; one sister, Laverne Knox Henry of Hartselle; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Members of the military served as pallbearers.
