Tucker says big shoes left to fill for FHS; Lady Blue Devils win two, fall to Tanner
Nick Johnston, Hartselle Enquirer
FALKVILLE – All fell silent as Meagan Wiley fell to the floor, writhing in pain.
Two days later, the news wasn't good for the Lady Blue Devil.
Wiley tore the ACL in her right knee late in Saturday's game against West Morgan. She will undergo re-constructive surgery Friday.
Season over.
"We're losing our leading scorer … she does a good job breaking the press and leads our fast break … I feel for her," Falkville head coach Kent Tucker said, obviously shaken over his star player's injury.
Unfortunately, it's not the first time Wiley has suffered a torn ACL. Last March, Wiley suffered the same injury on her left knee during volleyball season.
This season, Wiley leads the team with 16 points per game and eight rebounds. She has a season high of 16 rebounds.
"We're going into a situation where we have a chance to finish strong," Tucker said. "Everybody has to pick it up now. We've had two or three girls scoring most of the points, now five or six players have to score a lot."
"She was okay with it until she thought about not getting to play with Beth (Vest)," Wiley's mom Charlotte said. Vest is a senior and will graduate in May.
Falkville is 10-8 on the season as of Monday.
Falkville 42
West Morgan 40
(Saturday)
Whitney Eaves picked the right time for her only two points of the night.
Eaves hit the game-winning shot with just 10 seconds remaining in overtime to beat West Morgan 42-40.
Meagan Wiley scored a team-high 12 points before going down with an injury. Jada Jones had 11.
Falkville "came out flat" according to head coach Kent Tucker, as the Lady Blue Devils were outscored 15-1 in the first quarter. Falkville then outscored West Morgan 15-3 in the second quarter, cutting the Lady Rebels' lead to 18-16 at halftime.
The Lady Blue Devils led 28-22 at the end of the third quarter, but West Morgan rallied late in the contest to force overtime.
Beth Vest had eight points, Andrea Tucker had seven and Allison Saint had two.
Falkville 39, Clements 25
(Friday)
Offense was non-existent against Clements.
"We played good defense, but we were struggling on the offensive end," Tucker said.
Jada Jones scored 13 points and Meagan Wiley had 12. Katie Barnett had eight points, while Beth Vest grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Chelsea Nash and Haley King both had five points apiece for Clements.
Tanner 60, Falkville 33
(Last Tuesday)
Meagan Wiley's 16 points was the only bright spot for the Lady Blue Devils.
Falkville led 11-8 after the first quarter but trailed for the remainder.
Jada Jones had eight points and Katie Defoor had four points.
Katie Ward and Whitney Eaves had two points apiece and Andrea Tucker had one.
