Thanks to kindergarten student Logan Barkley and his grandmother, Donna Terry, Barkley Bridge Elementary School will be knee-deep in white paper from now until the next winter's frost.
Terry, an employee at Courtland Mill, registered her grandson's school for a donation of 100 cartons of International Paper general use office paper.
As a result, Barkley Bridge Elementary was chosen to receive the hefty donation.
"It was so much paper that one truck couldn't haul it," Logan said with a big grin.
Logan was right. According to Courtland Mill, the approximate weight of the paper donation is two and one-half tons. A standard pick-up truck can hold approximately one ton of paper.
Barkley Bridge Elementary School Principal Richard Gurley said the teachers and office staff are truly excited about the large donation.
"It's a great blessing," Gurley said. "The donation will ultimately account for one-third to one-half of our regular yearly paper consumption. The money normally used for paper can now be freed up for other educational purposes."
Gurley said 10 of the 100 cases of paper were saved for office use.
The remaining 90 boxes were distributed among each teacher.
