Democrat Greg Bartlett captured the county's top law enforcement job Tuesday.
Bartlett received some 52 percent of the vote to challenger James Hudson's 48 percent.
Bartlett's supporters gathered at the Hartselle Depot to celebrate the victory.
Bartlett is the former chief investigator for the Morgan County District Attorney's office and has pledged to help clean out the backlog of outstanding warrants.
In another race, incumbent Russ Beard won another post as Morgan County coroner, defeating challenger Lavonne Collier.
With 54 of 60 boxes reporting at presstime, Beard received 70 percent to Collier's 31 percent.
Beard will be serving his second term as Morgan County Coroner.
