John D. Sharp

Funeral for John D. Sharp of Newnan, Ga., was Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Newnan with the Revs. Gary Parrish and Larry Patton officiating with McKoon Funeral Home of Newnan directing.
Burial was at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, Ga.
Mr. Sharp died Sept. 25, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Hartselle, he was a graduate of Morgan County school and served in the United States Navy as a ship's cook aboard the USS Monongahela in the Pacific. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Forest at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn and retired in 1989 from Georgia Power Company Land Management Department. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newman, where he was actively involved with adult education in Sunday school for more than 35 years. He was associated with the Kiwanis Club and Georgia Power Ambassadors. He was the brother of the late Arthur C. Sharp and Douglas L. Sharp.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia DeLaigle Sharp of Newman; three daughters, Virginia Franz of Ga., Emily Sharp of Colo. and Pamela Cray of Ohio; and three granddaughters.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Newnan, Ga.
