Danville falls to Winston County

It was Homecoming 2002 for the Danville Hawks would likely forget if they could.
The Hawks fell 34-0 to Class 3A rival Winston Co.
The Hawks entered the game with a 0-5 record with the visitors having a 1-4 record.
This game was moved up to Thursday with the threat of severe weather on Friday due to Hurricane Lili.
The Hawks opening drive ended with them punting the ball away to the Yellow Jackets.
The visitors took a 7-0 lead following the punt as Kyle Alford caught a 6-yard pass from Yellow Jacket's QB Jared Courington. The touchdown play was set up by a 34-yard pass from Courington to Zeb Cobb.
Danville once again had to punt on their next possession giving Winston Co. good field position as they started their next possession from the Danville 38 yard line.
This time Courington hit Cobb on the first play of the drive for 38 yards to put the Yellow Jackets up 14-0 with a little under 8 minutes to play in the first quarter.
The Hawks next possession started from their own 33-yard line. The drive took over 6 minutes off the clock before fumbling the ball on the Winston Co. side of the field with the visitors recovering the fumble.
Following two incomplete passes, Jackets' QB Courington hit Cobb once again. This time it was for 63-yards putting the visitors up 21-0.
On the ensuing kick-off, the Hawk's fumbled the ball and the visitors recovered it at the Danville 19-yard line.
Three plays later, the Jackets scored again. This time with Courington scoring on a 1-yard run giving the Jackets a 28-0 lead with 10:00 minutes still left to play in the 2nd quarter.
The Hawks and Yellow Jackets traded possessions back and forth to end the first half.
The second half started off just the same way that the first half ended with the two teams trading possession of the ball.
Danville once again lost the ball due to a fumble. This time it took the Yellow Jackets 5 plays to put the ball in the end zone for the final time of the night. This time it was Yellow Jacket RB Brandon Williams scoring on an 8-yard run.
The Hawks were out-gained by the Yellow Jackets 379-100 for the game.
Danville was led in rushing by Josh Biggans who ran for 38 yards on 10 carries and Thomas Garner who carried the ball 5 times for 28 yards.
The visitors were led by Courington's 292 yards passing and Cobb's 175 yards in receiving.
