Playing their best football of the season Brewer faced fourth and one at the Coffee 43 yard line. Trailing by nine points and with 7:39 left to play, Brewer needed a big play. Quarterback Samuel Mason called on Tony Parise once more but the ball never made it. The fumble ended Brewer's chance for a homecoming victory, as Coffee went on to win 32-20. The loss put Brewer at 0-6 and extends the losing streak to 16 games. Coffee is now 2-4.
"We choked in some critical situations, we have to learn to finish strong," head coach Robert Peppers said. "I thought we were in the game until the fumble in the fourth quarter but I'm pleased with the success we had running the option." The Patriots turned in their best offensive performance this season out gaining Coffee in total yards 274 to 271.
Senior Tony Parise led the way with 107 yards on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns.
But Brewer followed the same script as previous games, falling behind early after Coffee took the opening kickoff and drove 71 yards with Jarrell Mitchell going in from the one. Coffee came up empty on their next drive as linebacker Lyle Caldwell stopped Keeton Stewart to force a punt that traveled only 12 yards.
The Patriots struck quickly with senior Parise doing all the work. Two runs got a first down. Then a 13-yard run put Brewer on the scoreboard for the first time since the Hartselle game a month ago. Mason ran in the two-point conversion to tie the score.
