Hawks grounded by the Cold Springs Eagles

By Staff

The Danville Hawks could not overcome 272 yards of rushing offense and fell to the Cold Springs Eagles 22-0 Saturday.
The game was postponed due to field conditions Friday night. The postponement did not deter Cold Springs' Brandon McClendon, though.
McClendon rushed 13 times for 114 yards in a little more than two quarters of play. His 42-yard scamper early in the first quarter set up a Daniel Johnson touchdown from 17 yards out.
McClendon reached the endzone on the Eagles' next possession with a 20-yard run from scrimmage, capping a 13-play, 5:53 scoring drive that covered 64 yards.
With the two-point conversion Cold Spring held a 14-0 lead that held until halftime.
The only bright spot for the Hawks was the running of freshman Tyree Murphy. He rushed for a team-high 55 yards on 17 carries. As a team, Danville rushed for 103 yards.
The only points in the second half came through the air, as Cold Springs' quarterback Travis Chambers connected with Kyle Graves from nine yards out for the score.
The damage could have been much worse, but Danville forced three turnovers.
