Everything will be just ducky at annual race

The second annual Ducky Derby Rubber Duck Race, sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Morgan County, will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. on the Tennessee River at Rhodes Ferry Park during River Fest.
Duck adoption forms are available at the River Fest Duck Headquarters tent, Colonial Mall customer service desk, Winn Dixie in Decatur and the Volunteer Center of Morgan County. The adoption fee is $5 per duck.
The Ducky Derby is a fundraiser sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Morgan County that consist of racing (floating) a maximum of 8,000 rubber ducks down the Tennessee River for one-eighth of a mile during River Fest activities.
The public is asked to adopt the ducks for a $5 donation to help support many programs and events at the Volunteer Center such as: Youth Program, Friend 2 Friend Mentoring Program, Heat and Cold Relief Program, Wheel Chair Ramp Program, WAFF Can-a-thon, Volunteer of the Year awards and providing thousands of volunteers yearly for non-profit agency needs.
Adopters who adopt five ducks with "A Six Quack" package will receive one duck free plus a large pizza from Domino's.
Double your chances of winning with the "Two Ducks Are Better Than One" package and receive a free order of Domino's breadsticks. The adopters of the first 10 ducks that cross the finish line will win one of the following great prizes:
First place: $100 in free groceries per month for one year from Winn Dixie.
Second place: Get-away vacation for two at the Marriott Bay Point Resort Village in Panama City, Fla. Enjoy a four night, five day vacation at the beautiful golf and yacht club (Sponsored by Courtyard by Marriott).
A full size rental car will be furnished for the trip (Sponsored by Enterprise Rent A Car).
Third place: Dinner and a movie for a year. Take pleasure in dining for two with 28 vouchers for a year (Sponsored by Crack Barrel and Louie's Restaurant).
Also, enjoy two free movie passes each month for a year (Sponsored by Regal Cinema and Carmike Cinema).
Fourth place: Enjoy a year pass to one of the area's finest golf clubs. Sunset Landing Golf Club will provide the winner with green fees from Sept. 15, 2002-Sept. 14, 2003.
Fifth place: An elegant lady's 14K yellow gold 18 inch chain with one sapphire and diamond pendant (Sponsored by Jimmy Smith Jewelers).
Sixth place: Get ready to have fun seeing great round ball action with two partial 2002-2003 season passes along with two exhibition game tickets to the Huntsville Flight Basketball.
Seventh place: One 18 cubic foot General Electric refrigerator (Sponsored by General Electric Company in Decatur).
Eighth place: A family fun pack with six passes to Point Mallard.
Ninth place: Prepare to relax and enjoy the Red Jasper Spa's incredible "Day at the Spa" package.
Includes a sugar scrub with steam, express facial with makeup application, spa manicure and pedicure, haircut, style, and complimentary lunch of your choice at Curry's or Brick Deli.
Tenth place: Enjoy a free pound of fabulous candy for six months from Morgan Price Candy Company. The 2001 Ducky Derby raised over $14,000 with all 3,000 ducks adopted out for the Volunteer Center and participating organizations. The 2002 event will be an even bigger splash with 6,000 ducks racing down the Tennessee River on race day.
