Cheerleaders? We're no stinkin' cheerleader

By Staff
Nick Johnston, Hartselle Enquirer
While watching the Falkville Falcons practice, one might notice that no one is treated differently.
And why should anybody be, right? They're all just rough and tough boys playing football.
Wait a minute – there are not just boys out there.
Diana Holt, D'Je Simmons and Danielle Pierce all play for the Falcons. And if anybody wishes they were treated differently, it's the boys.
"We all like hitting the boys," Holt said. Simmons and Pierce just smiled and nodded their head.
Holt has the most experience of the three, playing for the last six years. It all goes back to six years ago while a cheerleader.
"One of the boys told me I couldn't do anything because I was a girl," she said. "I think I have showed that I can."
The offensive lineman's mother, Connie Holt, said she is in total support of her daughter.
"She shows other girls they don't have to be stereotyped," Connie Holt said. "She loves it when she walks onto the field and boys say 'they've got a girl playing for them.' It just gives her fuel."
Pierce is in her second year of tackle football.
"I wanted to play because Diana played," she said. Pierce is Holt's cousin. "Hitting boys is what I like the most."
Simmons is in her first year.
"I just wanted to try something new," she said. Simmons
