Encore! presents "I Love America"

By Staff
Join in the celebration of America and its music when Encore! presents "I Love America!" June 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The star-spangled celebration in song and dance is at the historic Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, located at 112 Second Ave. S.E. in Decatur. General admission tickets are $9, available by calling 340-1778.
A array of choreographed patriotic tunes, including "Proud to Be an American," "This is My Country," "Red, White &Blue" and "The Star-Spangled Banner," are designed to promote the American spirit. You'll work up a sweat during "Steam Heat," tap along to "Puttin' on the Ritz," be enticed by "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets" and swallow a dose of razzmatazz with "All That Jazz."
The finale is a stroll down musical memory lane – from "Button Up Your Overcoat" of the Roaring '20s to the Big Band-era "String of Pearls," Chubby Checker's 1950s hit "The Twist," the first line dance craze from the 1960s "The Locomotion," and "Boogie Fever" from the disco days of the 1970s. The curtain closes with a collection of 27 songs spanning 11 decades.
Encore!, an 18-member ensemble, was organized in 1989 as part of The Alabama Reunion.
