Back to the polls

By By Leada DeVaney, Hartselle Enquirer
After a primary with higher-than-expected voter turnout, officials are readying for runoffs with considerably fewer going to the polls.
Morgan County voters will join others in the state at the polls next Tuesday at primary runoffs. Polls will be open 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
With no major state races on the ballot – each party's nominee for Governor and Lt. Governor was decided during the primary – voter participation could dip as low as 20 percent.
It's made even more confusing because each of Alabama's political parties have different policies of runoff crossover voting. Alabama's Democrats do not allow crossover voting. That is, if you voted as a Republican in the primary, you cannot switch and vote as a Democrat in the runoff. However, the Republican party allows cross-over voting and lets Democrats who voted in the primary vote in their runoff.
In Morgan County, several local races are on the runoff ballot:
Statewide races n the ballot include:
On the Republican side, Beth Chapman of Shelby County and attorney Jim Zeigler are in the runoff for the GOP nomination.
