June 13

The Hartselle Adrenaline 02 softball team is selling Swamp John’s tickets for $10. Dine in or carry out at the Hartselle Depot on Thur., June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. Pre-orders or day of event sales are available

 

The Hartselle Fire Department will be in Sparkman Park to share with children ages 6-12, a day in the life of a real firefighter by trying on uniforms, exploring trucks and participating in other activities during the Youth Fire Academy, June 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. Only those that registered by June 7 will receive a T-shirt. The event is free. Kids, be prepared to get wet.

 

Hartselle Parks and Recreation will host family movie night in Sparkman Park for free. Bring a lawn chair and snacks, or purchase from concessions. June 14

Help the Friends of the Library support the Somerville Library by attending the annual book sale during the Somerville Celebration on Fri., June 14, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Hardback books are only $1. Paperbacks are 50 cents. This is a great opportunity to get your summer reads.

 

Hartselle Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a Daddy-Daughter Date Night June 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., just in time for Father’s Day. Daughters, bring dear old Dad out for a night of dinner and dancing and much more. A $10 fee, per person is due by June 7 to reserve your place.

Karate Clinic by Donnie Chappell, head instructor at Chappell’s Karate will be June 17-20, at 9 a.m., for ages 3 and up. Mr. Chappell will be teaching life skills in a Christian environment. Ages 3-5 will attend for one hour for $30 and ages 6 and above will attend for two hours for $40, and it includes a T-shirt. Please register and pay no later than June 14.

June 20

Hartselle’s finest will be at Sparkman Civic Center on June 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. for the Hartselle Police Department’s Youth Police Academy. The police officers invite children ages 6-12 to look inside a patrol car and learn about other exciting police procedures. This event is free, but please register by June 14. Those that register after the cut-off date will not receive an event T-shirt.

 

Cullman Regional Medical Center’s WomenFirst Program is pleased to offer the class, Yes Ma’am… A young Ladies guide to etiquette for girls ages 9-11, for a cost of $50 for children of WomenFirst members and $70 to others. The dates are June 20-21, June 27-28 and July 11-12. All classes will be on a Thur. and Fri., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch and snacks provided. The Morgan County Soil and Water Conservation District is having a Wetland Explorers program June 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children from second to sixth grade. Cost is $15 and includes lunch and a T-shirt. Children will learn about survival, water, soil, wildlife and will also be making a dirt shirt. Wear sunscreen, bug spray, boots and old clothes. JuFestival will be Thur., July 4, beginning at 4 p.m. at Point Mallard Park in Decatur. Activities include a children’s bike parade, live stage entertainment, a children’s area, Boy Scout celebration arena, Spirit of America awards ceremony, Miss Point Mallard Pageant and of course the Spirit of America fireworks display, at 10 p.m.

 

July 9

The Morgan County Extension Office is hosting a Babysitting 101 class Tues., July 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. Learn the basics of babysitting, diaper changing, feeding, games to play with children and what to do in an emergency. This is not a Red Cross certification class and there is no fee. July 11

The CBD Design Review Board July meeting, if needed, will be scheduled for July 11 at 5 p.m. due to the July 4 holiday. Submittals will be due by June 27.

Sparkman Civic Center will host a night of fun and games for kids 5-12 years old during its FUN-tastic Friday on July 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Parents can plan a fun evening out and drop the kids off for a $10 fee. Register by July 8 to reserve your space. Snacks will be provided.

 

Body Quest will be Mon., July 12, through Thur., July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Sparkman Civic Center. Body Quest is a four-day workshop with the goal to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, make physical activity jazzy, enhance sleep, hygiene and encourage family engagement, all with the help of an Apple iPad. July 13

Cullman Regional Medical Center is having a Prepared Childbirth Class Sat. July 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. Mom’s support person is encouraged to attend.The cost is $25 per couple or $20 per couple for WomenFirst Members and FREE to Medicaid patients.

CRMC Prenatal Breastfeeding Class is also Sat., July 13, after Childbirth class from 1-3 p.m. Both classes are held in CRMC’s Depot Room, in the Community Education Center in Professional Office Building 2 (POB 2). You are not required to attend the Childbirth Class in order to attend the Breastfeeding Class. Cost to attend the Breastfeeding class is $10. Mom’s support person is encouraged to attend. July 18

Hartselle Parks and Recreation is hosting Grandpa’s Got Talent July 18 at 10 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. We are looking for singers, storytellers, dancers, yodelers, kazoo players and any other talented guys with grandchildren. Prizes will be given and its free to sign up. Register at your local senior center or at Sparkman Civic Center by July 15.

 

July 19

Hartselle Parks and Recreation will have its annual princess party at Sparkman Civic Center on July 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 5-8. We will play games, make tiaras, play make-up and have “tea” at noon, so wear princess attire. Cost is $10. Please register by July 15.

 

July 20

Hartselle Parks and Recreation will sponsor its annual luau at Hartselle Aquatic Center July 20 from 8 -10 p.m. There will be special music, tropical decorations, exciting games and Hawaiian leis for everyone. Cost is $5. Season pool passes will not be honored during the luau.

 

July 24

Morgan County 4-H is hosting a cake-decorating workshop at the Morgan County Extension Office on Wed., July 24, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Registration deadline is July 9, class is $6. Students will learn basic cake decorating and take home the beautiful cake they decorated.

 

July 29

Swimming lesson registration and pool party reservations can be made at Sparkman Civic Center, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Swimming lessons are for ages 6 months through adult. Ages 5 and under are $45 and ages 6 and above are $50. Session 1 is June 3-14, Session 2 is June 17-28, Session 3 is July 8-19 and Session 4 is July 22- Aug. 2.

 

Birthday party planning at Sparkman Civic Center, for a fee of $100, which includes: party room at the Sparkman Civic Center, themed invitations, themed decorations, plates, cups, napkins eating utensils, party favors, games, activities and two party coordinators. All you supply is cake and refreshments. Space is limited, so register early. All fees must be paid at least one week prior to your party. The fee is good for up to 15 children ages 5 and older, additional children will be $5 each. You may begin registering May 20, parties will begin June 3, Mon., through Fri., from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sat., from 10 a.m. to noon. No Sunday parties.

 

 

AARP Chapter 1831 meets the first Tuesday of every month except July, at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located 721 Pickens St. SW in Hartselle, at 10 a.m.

 

Dale Serrano Studio of Performing Arts: Once again, Dale Serrano Studio of Performing Arts of Birmingham will be instructing ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop to boys and girls ages 2 1/2 through adult. Aerobics classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday at the Sparkman Civic Center, at 8 a.m. This class is taught by Mellonie Chappell and is for all ages. It’s the perfect opportunity to lose a few pounds and gain new friends at the same time. The fee is $25 per month or $10 per visit. The first class is free.

 

Water Aerobics- There is many advantages to water aerobics! Unlike normal aerobics, water aerobics supports the body and reduces the risk of muscle and joint injury. Water aerobics is perfect for the young and old alike. Classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 a.m. to 7:50 a.m., beginning June 3. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit.

 

Senior Nutrition Center: Are you age 60 or older and think you would enjoy mystery trips, monthly birthday parties, hymn book singing, puzzles, card games, listening to live performances of country legend songs and more? Then the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for you! Along with these fun filled activities, a nutritious meal is also served. The suggested daily donation is $1.25. If you would like to attend and don’t have transportation, a bus is available to pick you up and take you home again for a suggested fee of $1 each way. For more information call 256-773-0786.

 

The Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities. They also support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center. Priceville Palace hosts a Big Band Swing with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

 

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of First Christian Church on East Main Street.
